Department of Bioengineering - Current News /bioengineering/channels_item/3 en Prof. Ehrlicher receives prestigious CIHR Project Grant /bioengineering/node/2943
The Department of Bioengineering would like to congratulate Professor Allen Ehrlicher for his recent CIHR Project Grant. Professor Ehrlicher's project aims to explore how mechanical forces, such as compression of the nucleus, affect cellular aging and stem cell differentiation, particularly in Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS). In HGPS, accelerated aging and organ defects occur, including impaired fat tissue differentiation. Researchers found that nucleus compression activates Yes Associated Protein (YAP), which slows aging and promotes bone formation from stem cells.
Mon, 17 Feb 2025 14:04:55 +0000 ³ÉÈË´óƬ University iGEM Winter 2025 Applications Open! /bioengineering/node/2938
iGEM ³ÉÈË´óƬ is recruiting! Join an interdisciplinary team of undergraduate students to develop a synthetic biology project over the course of a year. We spend the winter semester on design, planning wet lab/dry lab projects, as well as related initiatives under our education, media, outreach, entrepreneurship, and finance subteams. The summer is then dedicated to full time wet lab (or dry lab) work. We are particularly interested in recruiting applicants with experience in either wet lab or dry lab work to lead those projects.
Wed, 29 Jan 2025 14:18:18 +0000 ³ÉÈË´óƬ University CUBEC coming up on Jan 25th /bioengineering/node/2921
The Canadian Undergraduate Biomedical Engineering Conference (CUBEC) is set to take place this January 25th, 9am - 6pm, at The Neuro on ³ÉÈË´óƬ University campus!
